Wednesday has the potential to be Edmonton’s warmest day for the next two weeks (if not longer). Temperatures hit 22 C in the city on Tuesday and should get to around 24 C under sunny skies Wednesday. However, change is coming and it starts Wednesday night. A low-pressure system will bring some rain and thunderstorms to northern Alberta through the day Wednesday. A cold front behind that system will slice across central Alberta Wednesday night bringing gusty wind and some showers (possibly a few thunderstorms). If we see any of that precipitation in the Edmonton region, it’ll probably be in the late evening or overnight. The cold front also ushers in a big cooldown. Edmonton’s daytime highs Friday/Saturday are looking to be about 10 degrees cooler than Wednesday. We’ll see a mix of sun and cloud in the Edmonton region Thursday with a high near 17 C and wind gusts in the 40-50 km/h range. Then... a chance of some showers Thursday evening. Windy again Friday with mostly cloudy skies and a chance of some scattered showers. Temperatures should top out in the 12 to 14 C range. Looking ahead to the weekend, a bit more sun for both Saturday and Sunday (especially Saturday afternoon and the first half of Sunday). Morning lows will be in the 3 C to 5 C range in the city both days, and outlying areas may see some patchy frost. Daytime highs are expected to be in the low to mid teens Saturday and mid to upper teens Sunday. Long range outlook: more mid to upper teen highs through next week.
