Chatham-Kent police arrested a 16-year-old youth who allegedly brandished a pellet gun in a school parking lot. On Sept.30 at 9:31 a.m., officers received a report that students had seen a male pull what appeared to be a handgun from his waistband in the parking lot of Chatham Kent Secondary School. As a precaution, Chatham-Kent Secondary School, King George Public School and McNaughton Avenue Public School were placed under lockdown. Schools have since reopened. Officers located and arrested a 16-year-old youth at a home in Chatham. Police say the youth was in possession of what was later determined to be a pellet gun. The individual remains in custody pending a bail hearing. In accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the youth’s identity would not be released. Police say there is currently no ongoing threat to the schools or the surrounding community.
