Families are breathing easier after the province announced Monday it would bring nearly 4,000 new licensed childcare spots to communities across B.C.
Hundreds of those spots are coming to Vancouver Island, and CTV News is now learning where they're expected to show up.
Victoria is expected to get the most new spaces with a projected 448 spots that come with a price tag of about $3.7-million. In nearby Sooke, parents will get 28 new spaces to relieve the daycare crunch.
Elsewhere, Duncan is slated to get 112 new childcare spaces, while Campbell River will get 98 – most of them earmarked for Indigenous programs.
On the mid-island, Nanaimo is expected to receive 48 new childcare spaces, Courtenay is getting 38 of them, Qualicum Beach will get 36 and Chemainus is projected to receive 18 new childcare spaces.
Mill Bay is in line to get 28 new spaces at the Malahat Childcare Centre.
The province says the investment will help child-care providers build new facilities, including the cost of buying land or buildings, as well as purchasing and assembling modular buildings.
It will also help providers purchase things like playground equipment and furnishings.
