The BC SPCA Victoria is in urgent need of adoptive families who can provide a caring new home for a cat or rabbit.
There are currently 36 cats waiting to be adopted.
“We are seeing our highest numbers in Victoria that we’ve seen in quite a few years,” branch manager Annie Prittie-Bell told CTV News.
There are so many that the branch in the capital region stopped accepting new cats and instead has started a waiting list for people wanting to surrender their felines.
“We have so many that we don’t have enough space, either caged or free-roaming space, to bring in all of the cats that we would like to be bringing in,” Prittie-Bell added.
There are already 17 people on the list and staff says if you’re looking for a new family pet, now’s the time.
The SPCA also has about 40 rabbits in care.
“We’ve got a capacity of about 40 [cats], but we’ve got so many rabbits in care that we’ve actually had to take over some of our cat rooms to make room for rabbits,” Prittie-Bell said.
The SPCA Victoria location currently has a 50% off promotion for adult and senior cat adoptions.
It plans to host a rabbit adoption event in the coming weeks.
