As Greater Victoria searches for a solution to its sewage problems, the cost of building treatment plants has now topped $1-billion – but that's the least expensive option.

The latest recommendations going before the region's sewage committee suggests building treatment plants at Clover Point and at McLoughlin Point, both off the entrance to Victoria's Inner Harbour.

The report says sewage piping costs make the two-plant option, with provision for an eventual facility west of Victoria, marginally cheaper than a single plant proposal for the Rock Bay area of Victoria.

But either option would cost more than $1-billion, with the preferred alternative estimated at $52-million dollars above the billion-dollar price tag. (CFAX)
