Police in Richmond have released surveillance video of an arson that happened several months ago as they attempt to identify the suspect. The incident occurred in the early morning hours of March 3. The video shared by Richmond RCMP Friday shows a man approaching the patio of a restaurant in the 2800 block of Sexsmith road and using what appears to be a lighter to set the plastic sheets enclosing it on fire. The fire caused “significant damage” to the exterior of the building before it was put out by Richmond Fire Rescue, according to police. No one was injured in the blaze. “Investigators have determined the fire is suspicious in nature and are seeking assistance from the public to identify an individual captured on surveillance footage in the area at the time of the incident,” Richmond RCMP said in their news release. They added that they’re aware of “information circulated on social media” about the arson, and they’re asking anyone who has additional photos, video or knowledge of the incident to contact them. “Even seemingly minor details may assist investigators in advancing this file,” said Cpl. Melissa Lui, in the release. “This includes individuals who have shared information about the fire on social media.
