Officers were deployed in North Delta on Friday afternoon, as what the Delta Police Department described as a “check on the well-being of an individual” resulted in the person barricading themself inside a home. The DPD said officers were called to the 7000-block of Nicholson Road, located in the Sunshine Hills neighbourhood, at 2:25 p.m. “As the situation evolved, the individual barricaded themselves inside the residence,” the DPD said in a release. “The Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team and additional police resources were called to assist in safely resolving the incident.” Nicholson Road was closed between 72nd and 70th Avenues through the afternoon as officers attended the incident, which police said ended at around 5 p.m., when the person who had barricaded themself inside the home was “safely taken into police custody.” Police didn’t explain why they were called to check on the person but said there is no ongoing risk to public safety now that the situation is resolved. “The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident remains ongoing,” The DPD added.
