A Muskoka cottage that’s prominently featured on a popular coming-of-age show is about to go up on Airbnb. Nestled in the woods along the shoreline in Muskoka near Port Carling, Gordon Bay Cottage was one of the filming locations in Prime Video’s summer drama Sterling Point, which debuted this summer. The show was filmed entirely in Muskoka and now fans can stay in the cottage that was featured so heavily. In the show, the cottage belonged to the estranged grandfather of the title character, Annie. The grandfather’s name was Gordon and while Gordon Bay is a real place in Muskoka, the title of the cottage seems fitting. Annie, who’s from New York, makes her way across the border into Canada after discovering her estranged grandfather died and left her and her twin brother an island in Muskoka. Located in Mactier within the Township of Georgian Bay, Airbnb is calling the listing “a certain Canadian cottage retreat.” It goes onto say that Airbnb is “opening its doors to yet another fan-favourite retreat” and that it “may look familiar.” The granite steps cascade down the terrain to a private dock. It’s also equipped with an 800-square-foot screened porch. The tourism company for the region, Discover Muskoka, states in a post on its social media; “Annie’s Muskoka cottage is officially on Airbnb.” Searches for stays in Muskoka are increasing from outside Canada, according to Airbnb. The online rental platform says check-ins through November are up nearly 110 per cent year over year. Also, overall searches including from Canadians, have increased more than 30 per cent. “Canadians have been escaping to Ontario’s cottage country for decades, and it’s exciting to see travellers from around the world discovering what makes this region so special,” says Val Hamilton, executive director of Discover Muskoka. Interested renters will be able to book a special stay at the cottage this fall starting on Tuesday. The three stays are taking place Oct. 2 to Oct. 5, the Thanksgiving long weekend from Oct. 9 to 12 and Oct. 16 to 19. It will cost $180 per night. This isn’t the first time a Muskoka cottage has been posted on the rental site for fans of popular shows to enjoy in real life. Fans of Crave’s hockey drama, Heated Rivalry, can stay in the cottage that characters Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov escaped to for a private getaway.
