An investigation is underway after a deadly collision between a commercial fuel tanker and a pedestrian in downtown Nanaimo Wednesday morning. Emergency crews were called to the Co-op Gas Bar on Victoria Crescent at about 6:45 a.m., according to a news release from Nanaimo RCMP. Police say the loaded gasoline tanker was backing into the parking lot when it struck a woman, who was seated or lying near the curb. The 42-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, and investigators are now working to contact her next of kin. “The circumstances surrounding this tragic incident remain under investigation, and investigators are gathering evidence to determine exactly what occurred,” said Staff Sgt.
