The Canadian government has announced an investment of almost $7.5 million into infrastructure upgrades at the Windsor International Airport. The investment was made through the Airports Capital Assistance Program to put towards asphalt rehabilitation and edge light modernization on Runway 07-25, as well as buy a second Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting vehicle. “Whether travelling for work, visiting family and friends, or moving goods to market, people and businesses rely on Windsor International Airport every day,” said Steven MacKinnon, Minister of Transport and leader of the Government in the House of Commons. “This investment will help ensure the airport continues to provide safe and reliable service while supporting its role as an important transportation and trade hub for southwestern Ontario. Investments like this are helping to build a stronger transportation network, improve regional connectivity, and ensure communities have the infrastructure they need to stay connected and grow.” Transport Canada says the investments will keep passengers, airport workers, and flight crews safe by ensuring the critical infrastructure is in good condition and that emergency response services are equipped to support growing passenger volumes.
