Saskatchewan RCMP are investigating after a suspicious item believed to be a possible explosive device was found at a business on Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation. Rosthern RCMP were notified of the item at around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday and called in the Saskatchewan RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit to assist. The business was evacuated, traffic was redirected away from the area and nearby residents were advised to leave as a precaution. The Explosive Disposal Unit later examined the item and determined it did not contain explosive materials, RCMP said. Officers say the investigation is ongoing and are now working to identify a potential suspect or suspects. RCMP are asking anyone with information to contact police. Investigators are also seeking dashcam or surveillance video that may have captured suspicious activity in the Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation area on Sept. 15. Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation is about 80 kilometres north of Saskatoon.
