A man has been charged after he allegedly followed a woman while holding a knife in Abbotsford last week, according to police. The Abbotsford Police Department said plainclothes officers were conducting proactive patrols near McCallum Road and Highway 1 Friday evening when they spotted a man with a knife “acting erratically,” and following a woman he did not know. “Recognizing the potential danger, officers immediately intervened. The man initially refused repeated commands to drop the knife, requiring officers to deploy a less-lethal shotgun to gain the man’s compliance,” AbbyPD said in a social media post. “The man subsequently dropped the weapon and was taken into custody without further incident.” Police later identified the suspect as 32-year-old Byron Davies, who they said is a known prolific offender from another community. Davies is facing several charges, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats, and failing to comply with a probation order.
