Mounties in Burnaby are trying to identify a suspect in a recent package theft and reminding people to be aware of potential porch pirates during the “holiday shopping season.” On Sept. 28, a package was allegedly stolen from a porch in south Burnaby, the RCMP detachment said in a statement, which included images of the suspect. “We’re hoping that the distinct vehicle, coupled with the suspect’s clothing, will help someone identify this individual,” said Burnaby RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj. “Anyone that falls victim to porch piracy is reminded to always report it to police.” Some tips police provided for guarding against package thefts include using doorbell and security cameras, arranging or secure delivery, and retrieving items promptly. Kalanj said the city has not yet seen a spike in package thefts but urged vigilance in the coming months. “These thieves often strike in broad daylight, looking for loot and plundering unattended packages in residential neighbourhoods,” he said. Anyone with information about the suspect in the Sept. 28 incident is being asked to call 604-646-9999 and quote file number 2026-34807.
