Unionized employees of the Vancouver Island Regional Library have handed their bargaining committee a strong strike mandate.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees says members of CUPE Local 401 are not happy with a contract offer because it does not address benefits' concerns and schedules that create problems with their work-and-family life balance.
The local says strike votes were taken at five separate meeting and by mail-in ballots and the results were overwhelmingly in favour of a strike, if needed.
The library serves an area stretching from Sidney on south Vancouver Island to Port Hardy and up to Haida Gwaii and Bella Coola.
