Two people were taken to hospital after a serious crash shut down the Malahat Highway in both directions.
It happened south of Bamberton, at the Split Rock Lookout, around noon on Tuesday.
A transport truck collided head-on with a minivan, crushing the front of the van and sending the truck careening into a rock wall.
The Malahat was fully reopened by 4 p.m., Drive BC said.
Northbound traffic was detoured at Shawnigan Lake Road while those heading southbound were asked to take Shawnigan Mill Bay Road.
Paramedics took two people to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, one in serious condition.
It’s not yet known what caused the crash.
The section of highway that it occurred on isn't part of existing safety upgrade plans announced by the B.C. government last year, but the province's transportation minister says it will be in the future.
