The Toronto Blue Jays have traded outfielder Daulton Varsho to the Houston Astros in exchange for right-handed pitcher Spencer Arrighetti and cash considerations, it was announced Monday. Varsho, 29, has hit .243 with seven home runs and 26 runs batted in across 99 games this season. The center fielder entered this season in the final year of arbitration and is set to become a free agent at the end of the campaign. Varsho was originally acquired by the Blue Jays in exchange for top catching prospect Gabriel Moreno and Lourdes Gurriel ahead of the 2023 campaign. Over his past four seasons, he has repeatedly provided superstar-level play in the outfield, taking home a Gold Glove in the 2024 season. While the lefty-hitting Varsho occasionally provided some pop for the Jays - he racked up 65 home runs over his tenure in Toronto, including 20 in just 71 games in 2025 - he was never able to put it all together. In 747 career games split between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Blue Jays over his seven MLB seasons, Varsho has hit ..229 with 106 home runs and 321 RBI. Arrighetti, 26, carries a 7-5 record with a 4.60 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 17 starts for the Astros this season. Drafted in the sixth round of the 2021 draft, Arrighetti owns a 4.66 ERA with 289 strikeouts across 268.1 career innings at the major league level since debuting in 2024. The Albuquerque, NM native is under team control through the 2029 season.
