One person has been arrested in connection with a street racing crash in Scarborough that left two people critically injured. According to police, a green Lamborghini SUV and a white Mercedes E-Class were racing eastbound on Highway 2A, near Meadowvale Road, on July 17 at around 9:30 a.m. At one point, police said, the Mercedes lost control and struck a third vehicle, a white Ford F-150. The Mercedes then left the roadway and hit a tree, police said. The driver of the Lamborghini fled the scene, according to investigators. Two occupants of the pickup truck, a 44-year-old male and 11-month-old male, were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The 15-year-old driver of the Mercedes and a 24-year-old male passenger were rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. Investigators later tracked down the driver of the Lamborghini involved, police said. He has been identified as 42-year-old Toronto resident Akil Gordon Heywood. Heywood faces two counts of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm, failing to stop at the scene of a collision, and stunt driving. Police did not provide an update on the condition of the two people critically injured in the crash or say whether further charges are pending.
