After several days of gray skies and cooler weather, summer-like weather is about to break through on Vancouver Island.
Temperatures near the ocean, including Greater Victoria and Eastern Vancouver Island, are expected to spike to the mid-20s, according to an Environment Canada special weather statement.
Meanwhile it will get even hotter inland, reaching about 30 degrees in places like Port Alberni and Cowichan Valley.
The summer-like conditions will begin Friday and could lead to possible record-breaking temperatures around the coast on Saturday and Sunday, the statement says.
Along with the scorching temperatures comes an increased risk of forest fires and heat illness, and British Columbians are being asked to stay vigilant while outdoors and to drink enough water.
Similar weather statements have been issued across Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast, Whistler, Howe Sound, Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
