The two fugitives wanted in connection with a drive-by shooting that put two men in hospital have been arrested, bringing an end to a massive five-day manhunt, Sooke RCMP have confirmed.

Staff-Sgt. Jeff McArthur said both suspects, including Joshua LaFleur, were taken into custody by multiple police units and an emergency response team following a standoff near the Sooke Potholes.

Mounties received information at around 1 p.m. that the two men were possibly hiding out at a home on Kirby Road, McArthur said.

Attending officers determined the suspects were somewhere inside, locked down the area, and called for reinforcements including the Vancouver Island Emergency Response Team.

That sparked an hours-long standoff, prompting police to call in a canine unit that eventually led them to the suspects at around 10:30 p.m.

Mounties took Lafleur and 21-year-old suspect Damien Medwedrich into custody after finding them hiding inside of a crawl space.

No officers were injured in the arrest, but McArthur did not confirm whether the suspects were hurt.

Police had previously warned the public Lafleur could be armed, and until Sunday, withheld Medwedrich's name.

Both men were expected to make appearances in provincial court Monday but charges have yet to be announced.

The arrests came after another full-scale manhunt to find the two men at Thetis Lake Park and Highlands on Friday.

A third suspect, Dustin David Brown, was arrested on Wednesday. He faces attempted murder charges in connection to the case.
