An investigation is underway after human remains were found following a house fire on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation on July 26. Ahtahkakoop RCMP responded to a report of a residential fire in the community around 7:40 a.m., according to an update from Saskatchewan RCMP on Friday. Human remains were found by the fire scene investigator during a search of the home following the fire. Following investigation, RCMP and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service determined the death was suspicious in nature and are working to confirm the deceased’s identity. The RCMP homicide investigation unit has taken over the investigation. RCMP say they’re unable to provide further information but will notify the public if there’s a risk to public safety. Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers. Ahtakakoop Cree Nation is about 150 kilometres north of Saskatoon.
