In an area that typically sees only two or three residential lot sales per year, the city is selling more than 20 lots in east Prince Albert to be developed into single-family housing. On Monday night, city council decided to proceed with a Saskatoon company’s offer on 22 lots for $1.5 million in an upscale area. “Moving two properties, three properties at a time,” said City Coun. Tony Head. “This is great to see 22. However, I have a couple of questions.” Following a question period with city administration, council voted to approve the sale of 22 vacant lots on Hadley Road to Pawluk Homes. Per this agreement development on five of the lots is slated to begin this year. The offer says half the payment will be made on the lots when the development permit is issued and the rest will be settled when the property is sold. Councillors voiced concern that this sale might take opportunities away from other companies and delay development in the area. “There’s a bit of a balance in here and I’m putting some faith in the fact we’ve done our homework,” said Coun. Darren Solomon. “That this is a good builder who’s going to produce what he says he’s going to do, and that we’re going to be ready with other inventory for other builders in very short order.” Administration says the city has the opportunity to take back the lots at any time if the agreement is not upheld. Pawluk Homes agrees to pay any outstanding balance by the end of May 2031. “This is nothing but a positive for our city. We’re going to see some growth,” said Coun. Blake Edwards. “I think the energy is arriving in our city, you see deals like this, people are starting to feel it.” Administration says it reached out to other developers and Pawluk Homes was the only one that showed interest.
