Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe says he is “slightly more positive” with the ongoing negotiations on the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) than he was a few months ago. “The inflationary challenges are hitting American families and businesses just like they are in Canadian families and businesses, and we have a good negotiating team done,” he told Your Morning Saskatchewan on Thursday. Moe said he was just in Washington, D.C. to inform the path forward from Saskatchewan’s perspective. “I think there’s a lot of agreement on hopefully getting to a place of a reviewed and renewed deal that is not only good for Americans but certainly good for Canadians and for the entirety of our continent,” he said. In working with Prime Minister Mark Carney, Moe said the relationship is very positive, despite not agreeing with all his policies. “He has a very sharp focus and effort when it comes to increasing Canada’s credibility in the international trade sphere. We’ve always been focused on that. We appreciate that,” Moe said. “He works and listens with the provinces. We don’t always agree, we don’t always come to the same point of agreement, but at least we are heard.” Moe also offered his condolences to the family of Saskatchewan Senator Todd Lewis following his passing, calling him a great advocate for the province and agriculture in particular. “He was always a solution seeker in every room,” Moe noted. “Always an advocate for agriculture at every table he was at ….
