A wanted man from Regina is in custody after leading police on an extended chase after allegedly stealing fuel from a business in Raymore while travelling in a stolen truck. On Sept. 21, at around 4:30 p.m. Punnichy RCMP learned of a fuel theft from a business in Raymore, which is located around 105 kilometres north of Regina. The suspect fled the scene. However, Punnichy RCMP found the suspect on Kawacatoose First Nation in a truck a short time later. Police determined the truck was stolen from a rural property in the Rural Municipality of Mount Hope the day prior. Mounties attempted a traffic stop but the stolen truck did not stop and fled from police. According to RCMP, officers from detachments in Wynyard, Wadena, Southey, Melville, and Fort Qu’Appelle along with CTSS units in Lanigan and K9 units in Yorkton were called in to assist. A tire deflation device at the intersection of Highway 15 and Township Road 270A near Keliher was set up. The stolen truck ran over it and came to a stop shortly after. The driver was arrested. As a result, the 42-year-old man was charged with fleeing a peace officer, possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000 and two counts of failing to comply with a release order condition. The accused was also arrested on warrants from Wynyard RCMP for charges including theft of a truck and theft under $5,000. He is set to appear in court in Punnichy on Tuesday.
