A northeast Edmonton apartment building was evacuated early Tuesday morning because of a fire. Kaylee Thoen says she awoke at 5:50 a.m. to her alarm as well as shouts of “fire, fire, fire!” She grabbed her pets and fled her unit at 1122 Hermitage Way, banging on neighbours’ windows and pulling the fire alarm as she went. Outside, she could see flaming debris falling from a balcony on fire. Edmonton Fire Rescue Services, which sent eight trucks to the scene, later confirmed the fire was contained to the area of one balcony. They declared the blaze out at 6:15 a.m. No injuries were reported. Thoen called the situation reminiscent of a 2024 fire down the block. “I’m tired.
