The man charged in fatal crash near Foam Lake has been granted bail, according to his lawyer. Appearing in Yorkton Provincial Court, Kelly Knopf was released Thursday morning on a $20,000 cash bail and an order that he return to Canada to address the charges. In an email to CTV News, Knopf’s lawyer said Knopf is returning home to South Carolina to receive treatment for injuries sustained in the crash. “This is a terrible tragedy and Mr. Knopf intends to comply with the conditions and is grateful the Crown agreed to his release,” his lawyer said. The collision happened just after 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 2 on Walhalla Road, nine kilometers west of Foam Lake. Investigation determined a truck was attempting to pass a semi when it collided with an SUV. A woman and her two daughters, occupants of the SUV, were declared dead at the scene. Shaun Didychuk, the woman’s husband, was taken to hospital by STARS with serious injuries. Knopf, the driver of the truck, was charged with three counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and three counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.
