The first accumulating snowfall of the year is expected in the province later this week, according to Environment Canada. In a special weather statement, Environment Canada says the City of Lloydminster on the Saskatchewan and Alberta border will likely see snow, which could impact holiday travel over the Thanksgiving long weekend. “Rain will begin to spread across northern Alberta today. Precipitation will change to snow on Friday in west-central regions, and for much of the province by Saturday,” Environment Canada says. The Calgary-Edmonton corridor is expected to see accumulating snow on Saturday. The areas expected to see the most snow are Grande Cache, Hinton and Jasper National Park, where totals could exceed 20 cm.The snow should taper off from north to south on Sunday. Drivers should prepare for potentially quick-changing travel conditions, and monitor alerts and forecasts from Environment Canada and the Highway Hotline.
