Fourteen eagle feathers have been gifted to the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan for use in testimonies. One feather will be kept at each of the 13 locations in the province, with the intention of a person either holding it or having it placed before them while swearing or affirming to tell the truth, according to the Courts of Saskatchewan. Cecile Brass, sister of Provincial Court Judge Michelle Brass, gifted the feathers to the court, after she received them from Bob Mills, former Chief of the Skidegate Band on Haida Gwaii. The gift was made in honour of Gregory Brass, Cecile and Michelle’s family, who died on Jan. 2, 2026. Those wishing to access an eagle feather are asked to arrange it in advance through the local court office. The 13 main locations are in Estevan, La Ronge, Lloydminster, Meadow Lake, Melfort, Moose Jaw, North Battleford, Prince Albert, Regina, Saskatoon, Swift Current, Wynyard and Yorkton. Feathers can also made available at circuit point locations, which are smaller or remote communities. Chief Judge Shannon Metivier of the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan thanked the family for the contribution. “The Court recognizes the cultural importance of eagle feathers and is committed to ensuring they are treated with the utmost respect and care,” she said.
