Ottawa firefighters battled a home fire in Sandy Hill overnight on Friday. According to Ottawa Fire Services, crews were sent to a single-family home on Wilbrod Street near August Street, where smoke had been reported at approximately 10:24 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the second floor and roof of the building. Firefighters searched the building and found no occupants. Crews began attacking the flame but had to evacuate the building shortly before 11 p.m. due to dangerous conditions. The fire was ultimately declared under control at 3:20 a.m. and firefighters set up a fire watch to monitor for flare ups. Ottawa paramedics say they were on the scene to support Ottawa Fire Services but did not treat any patients. An Ottawa Fire Services investigator is working to determine the origin of the fire.
