Halifax police responded to two sudden deaths and a person in serious medical distress within 24 hours. On Friday, police say the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Service is conducting autopsies to determine the cause of death in both incidents. The person in medical distress was taken to hospital. “In the event that these incidents are determined to be drug-related, the police are reminding the public to be cautious as illicit drugs may contain unknown substances, including highly potent opioids such as fentanyl that can significantly increase the risk of overdose, serious injury, or death,” a news release reads. “If you see someone experiencing an overdose, call 911 immediately. Signs of an overdose may include difficulty breathing, unconsciousness, vomiting, blue or grey lips or fingernails, or an inability to wake the person.
