A four-year-old child has died after being found unresponsive in a backyard swimming pool in Ottawa’s east end. The Ottawa Police Service says emergency crews responded to a call in the area of Bathgate Drive and Matheson Road at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday. The child was found unresponsive in a neighbour’s backyard pool, according to police. “Despite life-saving efforts, the child passed away,” police said. “A preliminary investigation has found no indication of suspicious circumstances.” Police say investigators will continue to review the circumstances surrounding the child’s drowning, including how the child accessed the neighbour’s property. “Our heartfelt condolences are with the child’s family and loved ones, as well as the neighbours and first responders affected by this tragic loss,” police said.
