The Winnipeg Police Service made over 120 arrests and recovered thousands in stolen property as part of its fall retail theft enforcement blitz. On Thursday, police announced the results of the initiative, which aimed to reduce retail crime at businesses and shopping centres in the city. As part of the project, officers carried out enforcement and crime suppression efforts at over 30 businesses across the city. This resulted in 123 arrests, more than 243 criminal charges, and the recovery of almost $22,000 in stolen property. Police note they also arrested 15 repeat offenders who were known to the property crime unit. Outside of the initiative, officers responded to other retail thefts around the city, which resulted in 81 arrests, 134 criminal charges and the recovery of more than $13,000 in stolen items. Police note that public safety remains their top priority. More information on safety and crime prevention is available online.
