A Moncton, New Brunswick man is facing $1,600 in fines after being spotted speeding 84 km/h over the speed limit on a Gatineau, Que. highway. The Sûreté du Québec says an officer observed a driver going 184 km/h on Highway 50 at Lepine at around 3 a.m. Saturday. The speed limit is 100 km/h. The driver received a ticket with a $1,618 fine, 18 demerit points and his licence was suspended for seven days. Meantime, a 26-year-old man from L’Ange-Gardien is also facing a hefty fine after being caught speed 80 km/h over the speed limit. Police say an officer observed the driver going 180 km/h on Highway 50 near kilometre marker 152 on Friday night. The driver received a $1,618 fine, 14 demerit points for speeding and his licence was suspended for seven days.
