Ontario Provincial Police say a 33-year-old man has been charged with making threats directed at police through social media. Temiskaming OPP received information Oct. 23 about a social media post that contained comments expressing hostility toward police and included statements advocating violence against officers, police said in a news release Thursday. “Following an extensive review of the social media content and other relevant evidence, investigators conducted additional inquiries to assess the threat and public safety risk,” police said. On Oct. 28, police arrested a 33-year-old man with no fixed address who was charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and failure to comply with a probation order. The accused will appear in Haileybury court in October. The investigation follows multiple interactions between the accused and the OPP throughout 2026 involving alleged threatening communications and expressions of hostility toward police, the release said. The OPP said it takes all threats of violence seriously and will thoroughly investigate incidents involving threats against police officers, public officials or members of the public. Anyone with information regarding the investigation is asked to contact the Temiskaming OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
