Four people were charged in Thunder Bay on June 11 after the Ontario Provincial Police seized more than $135,000 in drugs. Three of the four arrested are from Thunder Bay and Fort William First Nation, while a 44-year old London, Ont., man was also charged. The investigation began in May by the OPP, the Thunder Bay Police Service, Nishnawbe Aski Police and the Anishinabek Police Service into drug trafficking activity in Thunder Bay. “Evidence suggested that drugs were being trafficked from the Greater Toronto area into Thunder Bay and Fort William First Nation,” OPP said in a news release Tuesday. Fentanyl, cocaine, crack cocaine, a suspected cutting agent and more than $19,000 in cash were seized, police said. The London man was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime, police said. The man is scheduled for a court appearance on June 24. A 37-year-old Fort William First Nation woman was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and production of crack cocaine. She is set to appear in court July 16. Additionally, a 42-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man from Thunder Bay were each charged with possession of the proceeds of property obtained by crime and possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine. Both are scheduled for a court appearance July 17.
