The college that regulates dentists in British Columbia has issued a public warning and secured a B.C. Supreme Court injunction against a Vancouver man it says is engaged in “unauthorized practice of dentistry and use of restricted titles.” The B.C. College of Oral Health Professionals says in a statement published on its website Tuesday that it investigated the man “after receiving reports” about his alleged practice at a residential building in Vancouver. The college says it sought, and was granted, an injunction against the man back in February. The man is identified in the statement and the injunction as John Doe, also known as Marco Cruz, doing business as “Dental Arts.” “BCCOHP attempted multiple times to identify and serve legal documents to John Doe, including cease and desist letters and an injunction, but the identity of Marco Cruz remains unknown,” the statement reads. Under the injunction, the man is prohibited from practising dentistry, using reserved titles like “dentist, dental surgeon, surgeon, doctor or dental therapist,” and using any name, title, description or abbreviation of such—including in other languages—that implies he is entitled to practise dentistry or is associated with the college. He is also prohibited from receiving payment for the provision of services that may be provided by licensed dentists. The full text of the injunction is also published on the BCCOHP website.
