The Greater Montreal area is under a severe thunderstorm watch for Tuesday afternoon and evening, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). “Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts, hail and heavy rain,” the agency notes. “Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible.” ECCC is warning against nautical activities “due to sudden, severe wind gusts over bodies of water,” and is reminding people not to drive through flooded roadways. “Heavy rain can cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility,” it emphasizes. The impact level is considered moderate, according to ECCC, and the forecast confidence is high. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain.
