Frédéric Boiteau, 43, was arrested on Tuesday in Saint-Jérôme, Que., about an hour away from Montreal, in connection with material exploiting sexual offences involving children. At the time, he had an order prohibiting him from using the internet and was the subject of an arrest warrant. “Since 2015, he has been prosecuted twice for possession, distribution and access to child sexual abuse and exploitation material,” said the Sûreté du Québec (SQ). “A recent search led to the seizure of an electronic device. Analysis of the seized material revealed more than 3,000 files containing child sexual abuse and exploitation material, which led police to obtain an arrest warrant.” Boiteau is facing new charges of violating a court order, as well as possession, production and distribution of child sexual abuse and exploitation material. “Police officers regularly conduct compliance checks on offenders with a high risk of reoffending,” the SQ explains. “This operation aims to monitor individuals posing a high risk of reoffending and to take action against those who violate the conditions imposed on them by court order, including arresting them when a warrant is in effect.” Boiteau appeared in court on Sept. 29 via videoconference before being transported to the detention centre in Saint-Jérôme. He is scheduled to return to court on Thursday for his bail hearing.
