Traffic delays ahead as repair for overpass above Highway 40 set to start

The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility says it will begin work on the Lacordaire Boulevard overpass above the Métropolitaine (Highway 40) starting April 20.

The work, which will cause traffic disruptions, is expected to continue until the fall of 2027, with a pause during the 2026-2027 winter season.

The ministry said the repairs are intended to maintain the bridge’s functionality and ensure its long-term durability.

Several lane closures will be required to carry out the work and will vary depending on the progression of the project.

On Lacordaire Boulevard, two 3.2-metre lanes will be maintained in each direction, and at least one 3.5-metre lane will be maintained in each direction overnight.

On Highway 40, partial or full overnight closures will take place, in one direction or the other, on both sides of Lacourdaire Boulevard.

On the Highway 40 service road (Boulevard Métropolitain), partial or full overnight closures will be scheduled in one direction or the other, on both sides of the Lacordaire Boulevard. When a full closure is required, detours will be available through the local road network.

The work will consist of the repair of concrete components, including outer sides, columns, walls, barriers, sidewalks, as well as paving, replacement of signage and lighting systems.

The project, which will cost around $8.7 million, is being completed in collaboration with the City of Montreal.
