The Montreal fire department is repairing several gas leaks near Sherbrooke Street and Saint-Laurent Boulevard, causing road closures and heavy traffic in the area. The Montreal fire department was notified around 3:35 p.m. of a suspicious smell in the area, prompting an investigation. The fire department told CTV News that it implemented its safety measures and there is no danger to the public. It shut off electricity in the surrounding area as a precautionary measure while work to repair the leaks is underway. Work to repair the leaks is expected to continue for several hours, the fire department said. Montreal police (SPVM) are currently on the scene assisting with traffic flow. According to police, Sherbrooke Street is currently closed between Saint-Laurent Boulevard and Saint-Urbain Street, while Clarke Street is closed between Prince-Arthur Street Ouest and Sherbrooke Street.
