Former Parti Québécois (PQ) MNA Alex Boissonneault, who lost his seat in Arthabaska-L’Érable in the Oct. 5 election, has been appointed director of communications and spokesperson for Premier Paul St-Pierre Plamondon. A government spokesperson confirmed the news Thursday morning. Boissonneault was one of the rising stars in the PQ’s small team before it took power in 2026. Appointed in a 2025 byelection in the riding, formerly known as Arthabaska, against then-candidate Conservative (PCQ) Leader Éric Duhaime, Boissonneault had his sights set on the inner circle: his leader had hinted during the last election campaign that he would be appointed to a ministerial post. However, that was not enough to secure his reelection, and Conservative candidate Tarek Henoud ultimately won the seat. When approached as he was leaving the Executive Council building on Wednesday afternoon, Boissonneault declined to confirm whether he would be appointed to a government position.
