An 87-year-old Bowser man reported missing Monday has been found by search and rescue crews.
Jan Baartman was cold after spending 24 hours outside alone in the wilderness, but otherwise safe, according to officials.
He went for a walk Monday afternoon and his family reported him missing when he failed to return home that night. Oceanside RCMP said he had possibly set out for the Horne Lake area.
Search and rescue crews scouring the area earlier in the day found his truck north of the lake, off the Inland Highway.
Forty search and rescue members from up and down Vancouver Island were looking for Baartman since 8 p.m. Monday.
A helicopter and a search and rescue plane were also called in to scope out the area from the sky.
Efforts were hampered due to ice and up to three feet of snow in some areas.
