A 76-year-old Central Saanich man has received a conditional sentence after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a teen boy at Royal Athletic Park in the late 80s and early 90s.
Andre "Andy" Van Goor pleaded guilty to the charge and received a conditional sentence of two years less a day, meaning he'll serve the sentence in the community, with probation for an additional year.
His conditions include no contact with anyone under the age of 18, he must abide by a curfew, can't consume alcohol or illegal drugs and must attend counselling sessions.
He must also have no contact with the victim and cannot attend any public park, school, daycare, pool or any other places where people under the age of 16 could reasonably be present.
Court heard Friday morning that Van Goor performed oral sex on the victim when he worked at Royal Athletic Park between March 1989 to March 1991.
The victim, who is now an adult, provided a victim impact statement at the hearing saying he thinks about the assaults "almost daily," and that they left him feeling "broken."
