Victoria police are recommending charges including attempted murder for a man accused of opening fire on a woman's vehicle early Sunday morning.
The incident prompted a lengthy search for the shooter and shut down the 1700-block of Kings Road for hours as police investigated a residence.
Officers were called to Ryan and Shelbourne streets just after 2:20 a.m. after the woman said that somebody fired shots at her vehicle. Police determined the vehicle had sustained damage consistent with a gunshot.
The investigation brought them to a home on Kings Road believed to be associated with the suspect.
The Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team was called in, as well as forensic investigators, major crime and canine units who helped search for the man. Police asked people to avoid the area as they cordoned off the block.
Officers executed a search warrant at the house after spending hours outside calling for the suspect to come out.
He wasn't found until late afternoon in James Bay, where police took him into custody without incident.
The man is facing charges including attempted murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, unlawfully discharging a firearm into or at a place, and a number of firearms offences. An investigation is ongoing.
