An elderly woman suffered serious injuries after she was assaulted and stabbed during a break-in at her south London home early Saturday morning, according to police. London police say the woman was sleeping at her residence near Wellington Road and Base Line Road East when she was awakened by a loud noise at about 6:10 a.m. on Aug. 22. Investigators said she discovered a man she didn’t know, entering the home and was assaulted and stabbed before she was able to call 911. The woman was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Multiple officers responded to the scene and said the suspect began throwing broken glass at officers as they arrived, causing minor injuries to one officer. A 40-year-old London man has been charged with aggravated assault, break and enter with intent, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and obstructing a peace officer. Cornejo remained in custody and was expected to reappear in a London court on Aug. 27. The allegations have not been proven in court.
