Barrie police recognized a driver as being prohibited from driving sitting in the driver’s seat of a car in the Bradford and Tiffin streets intersection. The officers stopped the vehicle as it travelled along Essa Road, just north of Burton Road. While they were speaking with the driver, an officer noticed a plastic baggie containing a white powdery substance in the centre cup holder. The driver and three passengers got out of the car were arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance. During a search of one of the men, police located a large quantity of identity documents belonging to other people. The driver was also found to have an identity document not in his name in his possession. In addition, officers seized two prohibited knives and break-and-enter instruments. Additionally, it was discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen earlier that morning. Police laid charges against the driver and one of the passengers and the other two vehicle occupants were released unconditionally.
