A Guelph man is facing weapons and assault charges after police say a machete was wielded during a dispute outside a social service agency Monday. Guelph police officers were called at about 11:30 a.m. after witnesses reported a man had stopped his vehicle outside the agency and exited while holding a machete. Police said the man held the weapon out as he approached another man before a bystander intervened. The suspect then fled the area, according to police. “The incident was allegedly the continuation of an earlier altercation elsewhere in the downtown,” police said in a media release. “The two men are not known to each other.” A 39-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
