Police in Campbell River are crediting a Good Samaritan for interrupting the assault of a woman who was taken from her home and brought to a remote area of town.

The victim called police Monday at around 5 p.m. to say she had been taken from her Dogwood Street home and attacked by a man known to her, according to officials.

She escaped and a passerby in the area took notice, intervening and causing the suspect to run away.

The Good Samaritan brought the woman to a nearby business to call police.

Using the vehicle description provided by the victim, police in the area tracked down and arrested the 31-year-old man shortly after.

Police say the intervenor prevented the assault from becoming more serious than it was.

The suspect is in custody and an investigation into the attack is ongoing.
