A man who fell overboard off the west coast of Vancouver Island was airlifted to hospital following a dramatic rescue Monday night.
It started when a small fishing boat sent out a man overboard distress call about 13 nautical miles west of Kyuquot Channel.
A Coast Guard vessel spotted the man, a fishing guide, in the water about three hours after he fell overboard.
A Cormorant helicopter from 442 squadron hoisted the man to safety.
He was flown to a Comox hospital, where his condition is unknown.
Rescuers say the man was wearing a lifejacket when he went overboard.
