The Edmonton River Float is shutting down its operations early this year, chalking it up to a bad set of circumstances with a season of heavy rain. “Every local knows, it has not been an ideal summer in Edmonton for outdoor activities,” said a statement posted to social media. Continuous rain throughout late July prevented crews from being on the water most days, meanwhile, the flow and height of the river remained unsafe well into August. Staff were encouraged to seek other employment opportunities and while the river may be safe for a float now, most staff had moved on with other commitments. “We don’t blame the staff for this, it was a challenging summer for them too,” said the statement. Rafting will be cancelled for the rest of the summer and fall. Those with a booking will be refunded. Edmonton River Float will honour all gift cards and free floats into 2027 and beyond.
