Wind will play a role in the forecast over the next three or four days, but it won’t be as strong as Wednesday. Gusts on Wednesday topped out in the 70 to 90 km/h range across the Edmonton region. Thursday afternoon’s gusts should be in the 30-40 km/h range. Friday’s shaping up to be fairly calm, and then we’re back to 50-60 km/h gusts for Saturday and 20-30 km/h gusts on Sunday. BUT... there’s also a short-lived bump in temperature coming. We have sunny skies and calm conditions in the Edmonton region Thursday morning. A few clouds will push in later in the afternoon as the wind picks up a bit. Temperatures should top out around 12 or 13 C (just slightly above the seasonal average high of 11 C). An upper ridge is rippling across the province over the next few days, bringing warmer air aloft. We’ll see that warmer air get mixed down to the surface for Friday and Saturday. Temperatures will climb into the upper teens Friday under sunny skies. There’s a bit of uncertainty with the Saturday temperature and whether the warmth will linger, or push further to the east. I’m thinking we should at least get to 15 C and possibly as high as 18 or 19 C. So...I’m going with a forecast high of 17 C for Saturday. The actual temperature may not matter THAT much, given the return of 50-60 km/h gusts Saturday. As the upper ridge moves off, we get some showers in northern Alberta late Saturday. There’s a slight chance of a spotty shower around the Edmonton region Saturday evening. Some cooler air moves in for early next week. Not COLD, but closer to average late-October temperatures.
